Beinglas
At the end of March I headed over to the top of Loch Lomond to camp at Beinglas campsite and spend a couple of days walking with Aileen. On the first day I drove from Edinburgh over to near Tyndrum, parking at Dalrigh Car Park and walking the short distance along past the west of the village. Part of this route was on the West Highland Way (which I walked in 2013), but some of the route was closed, with a diversion via a pleasant bike and pedestrian paved path.
Once near the town I veered off towards the railway station and walked the Cattle Creep trail up a nearby hill. It got a little rainy, and there was a rainbow over the town.
You can find this hike on Komoot.
That night I met up with Aileen and pitched at the campsite. It’s right on the West Highland Way route, so there were plenty of walkers. The campsite has toilet and shower facilities, a camp kitchen and a nice pub that serves food. As I drove to the site I treated myself to the luxury of two sleeping mats, an extra blanket and a pillow. A lot different to the last time I was there!
On our main day of walking we hiked from Inveruglas to Arrochar and then looped back around the glen. The first part of the route was wet, hopping over puddles nearby to a pylon construction and forestry track.
We sat down at the waterside at Ben Arthur Bothy, but were shooed away by a member of staff who shouted over that we couldn’t eat our own food in the empty outside space. A shame, as I’d hoped to pop in for a coffee, but decided to avoid it after that welcome. We sat on the church steps instead. Arrochar is a lovely location, but the waterfront was marred with a lot of litter.
We walked back via a forest track alternating between rain and shine. After the ascent the hike was pretty easy. The route, which you can find on my Komoot was about 23km total.
